GUERNSEY’S FA National League System Cup victory was yesterday hailed as the greatest achievement in the history of local football.
Saturday’s 5-2 romp at a Track packed with ‘green and white barmy army’ fans, has left Guernsey football still on a massive high today.
The island’s top players will now wear the three lions of England kit to represent the nation in the Uefa Regions Cup in September, where they will face the amateur representative teams of Croatia, Wales and Turkey.
However, Guernsey’s rugby team did not enjoy the same level of success in the Siam Cup, losing 36-nil to Jersey at Foote’s Lane.
Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland commended the rugby team for its effort and described the football performance as ‘superb’.

Truely one of the finest Guernsey performances i have seen in a very long time.

really don’t think it was a great game of football but finals rarely are – but it was a fantastic result and the Green & Whites fully deserved it for their gusty preformances in the earlier rounds against opposition which I thought were actually better than the eventual finalists
