There’s just no stopping this Jersey juggernaut

Bit of a squash: Jersey’s Steve O’Brien peeps out at life outside this early maul. (0961489)
Guernsey 0, Jersey 36
JERSEY gave Guernsey something to aspire to at Foote’s Lane on Saturday.
A huge crowd arrived at the ground in the hope that the Greens could pull off another against-the-odds Siam Cup victory but, unfortunately, the odds were just too much to overcome on this occasion.
Jersey produced a thoroughly professional performance that impressively emphasised how the club is moving forward apace and suggested, along with all their previous results this season, that their march up the national league ladder will not slow down any time soon.
Guernsey, who had to cope with a crippling injury list as the match went on, were courageous in defeat and gave their visitors more problems than the scoreline suggests.

I would like to say that I was very disappointed with the coverage of the Rugby Siam Cup. I met a lovely photographer from the press on Saturday, who took quite a few pictures of my Under 7s team. Like the children I rushed out to get the press hoping to read about their victory in the Siam Cup, they beat Jersey 10 tries to 8, my teams, coaches and myself have worked hard all year preparing the under 8s and under 7s for this day, what a shame it seems they aren’t mentioned especially my under 7s team, these children are in year 1 and year 2 at school, and this was a huge victory for them, since they have not won the trophy since 2001. Sorry but i had to point this out, and hopefully they will appear in the press soon to make their victory heard by all.
Yours, Head Coach for the under 7s and 8s.

Sorry forgot to mention there were other age groups playing too!

I’m guessing it’ll be covered in the Wednesday junior sports supplement…

Mrs Staples
It must be hard for a newspaper to cover so many sports stories and all from the same weekend!

Let’s hope the youngsters are covered in Wednesday’s Press.
The under 7′s in particular deserve coverage for their fantastic victory, what a mervellous boost that would be for them.

Unfortunately the press has papers to sell and unfortunately unless your child is involved in the match most people have little interest other than the big match and as Simon says it was a fully packed weekend of sport as it was.

Mrs. Staples it seems as though you want your name up in flashing lights with the repeated reference to ‘your team’. How on earth are you lead coach with 2 seperate teams? Maybe thats where you guys should look to when wondering why you lose out to Jersey at every Siam Cup. Oh; are you qualified to coach?

Mrs Staples – I agree.
Mark – the problem with this website is that it allows people like you to make comments which are ill thought out, not useful and shows your lack of knowledge. I was a rugby coach just like her and I can tell you that it is a long drawn out process to become a coach in any sport. Just like Mrs Staples, there are coaches for other sports, and Guernsey does particulary well with lots of sport and the coaches are usually mums and dads who decide to help out, enjoy it and put in the hard work to train, and for what, comments like yours.
Perhaps it would be better if you got off your behind and you went to help her then she would not have to coach two teams!!!

Rugy Coach
You are wrong, some sports there is no drawn out process at all, and in actual fact its generall who volunteers for the role, gets the role, practically no questions asked.
Granted the further up the coaching ladder you go, the more difficult it becomes as you need your coaching qualifications, but as far as coaching the U7′s I think we both know there are not too many hoops to jump through.

Rugby coach aka Mr.Staples???
‘Perhaps it would be better if you got off your behind and you went to help her then she would not have to coach two teams!!’……. How personal of you, I have coached rugby for the past 11 years and have no plans to retire.
I am a (qualified) rugby coach with the Jersey Academy, remember us? I have never sought to have my name mentioned in the local press(even after winning several prestigous tournaments on the mainland), as already pointed out in these comments nobody would be interested. I would love nothing better than seeing an evenly contested Siam Cup (Academy games)as would all Jersey coaches, I was merely pointing out the fact that to take on 2 teams is just not on and GRCA should do something about it.
Also:
Winning one single game (albeit tag) out of eleven against Jersey in the Siam Cup is not something to be proud of….so I will continue with my my lack of knowledge (your words not mine)and ponder as to where Jersey Rugby is going wrong.

Mark
So the under sevens shouldn’t be proud of themselves then?
Maybe you’re too old to remember what being seven is like.I still maintain that this is a great victory for them and they have every right to be proud. As does Mrs Staples for doing such a fantastic job.
These little lads are the Guernsey rugby players of the future.
