Election winner no odds for Guernsey

Wednesday 5th May 2010, 2:30PM BST.

Lyndon TrottNO MATTER who wins this week’s general election Guernsey is well placed, according to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott.

He has visited London several times over the past couple of years, building links with parliamentarians in government and those in opposition. Deputy Trott (pictured) also attended last year’s Labour and Conservative party conferences.

That effort, he believed, would prove beneficial for Guernsey further down the line.

‘Preparation for what I see as a seminal general election has been a significant part of our external relations work in recent years and irrespective of the outcome, I am confident that investment will pay dividends in the future,’ said Deputy Trott.

He has met the majority of the Conservative shadow treasury and justice teams and Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman Vince Cable in recent months, but said the Labour Party had not been forgotten. Relationships have been forged with Justice Minister Jack Straw, Lord Bach, the minister with responsibilities for the Channel Islands, and Stephen Timms, Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
