Nurses want to do less paperwork and treat more patients
Wednesday 5th May 2010, 2:29PM BST.
GUERNSEY nurses still have too much paperwork to do according to the Royal College of Nursing’s chair of council.
Local representative Sandra James (pictured) attended the union’s annual congress in Bournemouth.
At the conference it was claimed that nurses in the NHS are coming under pressure to meet targets and deal with an increasing amount of litigation from patients.
Guernsey nurses did not have to deal with as much paperwork as their colleagues in the UK, but Mrs James said that ward sisters were having to deal with too much work that was not directly related to treating patients, such as making duty rosters and filling in staff development forms.
‘It’s no secret I think many nurses would like to see less paperwork. Every 10 minutes they spend on paperwork is 10 minutes less on direct patient care. It’s the most frustrating thing for nurses.’
