Doubts remain on waste plan

WASTE strategy workshops were proactive but doubts remain about the overall direction, States members have said.
Deputies were yesterday invited to take part in meetings to outline the process involved in developing the new waste strategy and give Public Services guidance on what direction it should take, but those spoken to were less than enthusiastic.
Deputy Janine Le Sauvage (pictured) said members were trying to set criteria to establish a waste management system but that needed to be tailored to an island this size.
‘We need to develop a list of criteria suitable for the way we do things.
‘It’s about risk assessments and how you want to see things done, but some of those things could preclude you doing what you want to do – the public are keen to see kerbside recycling and that could almost be knocked out without trying it.’
