THE Education Department’s headquarters has been elegantly transformed into an authentic Occupation-era living room.
Jenny Griffiths, who has been taking care of the Grange property for 25 years, said she wanted to mark the 65th anniversary of Liberation by helping people remember the island as it was.
‘I hope this will bring into focus the old world, like my grandmother’s kitchen, and I think it is really important to remember how little people had and how they coped.’
The 64-year-old was born in 1945 but said her early childhood was deeply affected by the island she was born into in the aftermath of the Occupation and the stories her friends and family would tell.
