SYLVANS went on the attack at a planning tribunal hearing yesterday in a bid to expand facilities at its St Peter’s headquarters.

But the 10 times Guernsey football champions ran into tough defence in the form of States agriculture and environment adviser Dr Andrew Casebow.

The club wants to remove a historic earth bank between two fields to the east of its main pitch. But Dr Casebow said that allowing that to happen could send the wrong message.

‘If earth banks are removed, where will it stop?’ said Dr Casebow. ‘You will end up with large fields which are not typical of Guernsey.’

Club secretary Kevin Melrose said it had no wish to change that and had no intention of putting permanent structures on them.
