Asplund achieves her goal

Johanna Asplund has become only the second Guernsey sailor ever to qualify for the Great Britain team for the Optimist European Championships. AFTER a strong performance over two weekends in very challenging conditions, Johanna Asplund became only the second Guernsey sailor ever to qualify for the seven-strong British team for the Optimist European Championships.
This year the European Championships will be held in Poland in early July.
The British team will face strong competition from teams from about 30 European and non-European countries, including strong sailing nations such as the United States, New Zealand and Australia.
‘Qualifying for the Europeans was one of my main goals for this season,’ said Asplund.
‘I am really looking forward to sailing an international championship in the Optimist before moving on to the Laser class.’
