Election uncertainty bad for businesses

BUSINESSES with connections to the UK are in for a period of uncertainty, according to Chamber of Commerce president Julian Winser.

Commenting on the morning’s General Election results – a hung parliament and no party with an overall majority – he said it looked like the ‘shambles’ was set to continue.

‘The one thing the markets don’t like is uncertainty.

‘They can’t make decisions with no idea yet whether Gordon Brown is going to try and cling on to power – nobody knows what is going to happen,’ he said.

Mr Winser said inflation was also likely to increase while the pound would drop.

‘From a business perspective, I think a Conservative government with a majority would probably have given more stability.’
