History in the park

Monday 10th May 2010, 2:29PM BST.

0965933SAUMAREZ PARK’S lawns were covered by a huge array of historic and eccentric vehicles on Saturday.

Military machines ranging from Russian motorbikes to American Jeeps lined up alongside classic cars and tractors, brought from Germany, ploughed past Bubblegum Bangers and even a Ghostbusters wagon.

Islanders turned out to see the display in force, as organiser Suzie Shorto, of the Guernsey Military Vehicles Group, observed.

‘It was a bit of a nightmare trying to get more than 100 military vehicles in here as they all seemed to turn up at the same time, along with all the other cars and bikes, but they look very good in the sun and it’s a great turnout,’ she said.

‘I don’t think I have ever seen so many classic vehicles in one place in Guernsey before. In fact, I don’t think anyone else has either – so hopefully we will raise some money for the Help for Heroes charity.’
