‘States should have had say on OUR, not a half-day off’

Matt FallaizeDEPUTIES will have to challenge Commerce and Employment’s report on the regulator if members are not happy with the way a review has been carried out, Deputy Matt Fallaize (pictured) has said.

The April States sitting decided not to debate Deputy Dave Jones’ requete that sought to review the role of the Office of Utility Regulation after the petition received a high level of support.

Members gave up the right to speak on the subject and the motion was voted through.

Deputies have been asked to submit their view on the requete to the department, but this has led some people to question whether a debate is now taking place behind closed doors.

Deputy Matt Fallaize believes a debate in the States should have taken place so Commerce and Employment could have gauged the strength of feeling on the topic.
