The 16-year-old Sarnian (pictured) has reached the 60kg final in his age group of the Royal Navy ABAE Junior Championships and will face Jonathan Brown in the Barnsley Metrodome on the weekend of 22-23 May.

Amalgamated club coach Guilbert fancies his boxer’s chances.

‘He has done really well. He has got all the way to the final and he has already beaten this opponent about a year ago,’ Guilbert said.

‘If he wins, it will be the first time we have had a junior ABA champion during my time [as coach] and I think he is going to do it.

‘It has been a long time since we have had anything like this.’

Demore reached the final thanks to an 11-9 semi-final victory over George Moughton at the weekend in Sittingbourne, Kent.

‘He boxed really well,’ Guilbert said of his prospect.

‘He was 3-1 up at the end of the first round and that was our plan – to have a really good start. He had to attack him, which he did and he was never behind.’

Adam Baker was also in ABAE Junior Championships semi-final action at the weekend, but the Sarnian lost out to Louis Adolphe from the Earlsfield club.

‘Adam did exactly what he was told. He tried everything and did not let anyone down,’ Guilbert said.

‘But he had a very strong and more experienced opponent. He [Adolphe] has been in the last five ABAs on the trot.’

Guilbert expects there to be good Guernsey support for Demore at the final with many of his club members having enquired about making the trip to Yorkshire.

The coach added that it could be the first of several finals in the coming years.

‘This is great for us and we have got a lot more coming through as juniors. The likes of Tom Maunder and Jack Gilvear will be ready for next year when they come up from schoolboys.
