A MECHANICAL fault cost James McLaughlin the chance of an outstanding overall victory in the Totnes-Vire Two-Day Stage Race.

The young Guernsey Velo Club star proved unbeatable over the opening two stages before encountering horrendous luck on the third and final stage.

Commonwealth Games selections McLaughlin and Josh Gosselin were part of a strong Guernsey team in Devon along with Stuart Le Tissier and Mike Serafin.

They were greeted by a very strong field comprising nationally ranked elite 1, 2 and 3 category riders.

Some famous names such as former professionals Yanto Barker and Ben Luckwell added to the quality.
