A LOCAL panel beater was told he had to pay for the time he lost while on a training course, an employment tribunal heard.
And that was at the rate charged to customers – £313.24 for just over four hours.
Mr England, who claims he was forced to resign from John Thompson Autorestorers Ltd after he was subjected to sustained victimisation and verbal abuse, told the hearing he was ordered to pay back £9,000 in training costs.
‘Cost of the courses was never discussed and there was no mention of these big bills,’ said Mr England, whose monthly basic wage was £2,184.
But bodyshop manager Tim Davey said that was nonsense.
‘All of my employees are aware of the expenses before they go anywhere,’ he said.
The case continues.
