A pan-island MoH post ‘is worth considering’

Dr Stephen BridgmanSHARING a medical officer of health with Jersey is worth investigating, according to Guernsey’s director of Public Health.

But Dr Stephen Bridgman (pictured) said the issue of inter-island cooperation should be considered across the board, as simply sharing one post could prove complicated because of the islands’ different legal and political systems.

This follows the question of collaboration being raised in Jersey’s States last week and as both islands struggle to control soaring health expenditure.

‘It would be good to look into sharing – we could look at it across a whole range of areas,’ said Dr Bridgman. ‘We already do cooperate on quite a lot of things.’

He said the officer’s role could become complicated if they had to operate in different ways in the different islands.
