USING her grandfather as a model for a photography competition proved to be the perfect idea for one Ladies’ College student.

Florence Le Couteur was the under-18 winner of the Remember competition, which was run by Guernsey Museums in conjunction with the Guernsey Photography Festival.

The 16-year-old asked her 93-year-old grandfather, Les Garthwaite, to pose for her because he served in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War.

She said it seemed a relevant idea as the competition encouraged participants to relate their pictures to the Photography Festival’s theme, which was ‘invasion, occupation, liberation and celebration’.
