A CAMPAIGN to help islanders prepare for the digital television switchover was started at Castel Primary School yesterday.
The analogue TV signal will be switched off on 17 November so viewers using an aerial will need to convert their televisions to receive digital.
Digital UK’s south-west regional manager Bill Taylor said it was vital that people still receiving an analogue signal made the change.
‘If you don’t have some sort of digital TV you won’t get TV any more, so you need to be ready for the switchover. You don’t need a new telly – any telly can be converted with a digital box costing around £25.’
Year 4 pupils at Castel School have been learning about broadcasting and the switchover as part of their curriculum and Mr Taylor said they grasped new technologies very quickly so would be able to help their parents and grandparents with the switchover.
