TOM LE HURAY held his nerve as dusk descended on L’Ancresse to come through the pick of yesterday’s opening round clashes in the Intertrust Island Championship.
The former island junior champion needed four extra holes to edge past Dave Rowlinson at the end of an intriguing match that was nip and tuck throughout.
Le Huray had reached the 12th tee with a slender one-hole lead but then found himself in an awkward spot in thick rough on the slope of the grass bunker to the side of the par three’s green.
While Rowlinson got up and down to save par, his opponent could not match him and the match was all square.
