SPEND just a few minutes in the company of Derek Webb, the president of the Guernsey Table Tennis Association, and you can guarantee you will be tapped up to buy one of his ‘Lotto’ tickets.
The weekly lotto has been a sound means of fund-raising for the GTTA this past couple of years and on the eve of Guernsey’s visit to the ITTF World Championships in Moscow, Webb was joking that he would be selling his tickets in Red Square.
‘I’m going to sell some Lottos to the Russians,’ he laughed.
He probably would, too, given the chance, but a good set of results is his only target as Guernsey send men’s and women’s teams to the Russian capital.
‘It is all part of our development plan,’ said Webb, who heads the small Sarnian party when they fly out on Saturday.
