DANNY BISSON and Steve Mahy were high profile casualties in last night’s first round proper of the Intertrust Island Championship at L’Ancresse.

And while it was highly creditable for La Grande Mare’s Dave Jeffery to beat island player Bisson 2 and 1, the real star of the evening was 68-year-old Mick King, who defeated Mahy on the second extra hole.

The old maestro has so often saved his best form for championship week, but the result must have been a bitter-sweet one for his son, Gary, who was carrying his opponent’s bag as he often does.

The end came on the par four second, second time around.
