Bangkok was placed under curfew yesterday.

A GUERNSEYMAN travelling in Thailand has said most of the tourists he met in Bangkok felt safe despite the violence there.

It is thought that up to 40 people have died in clashes between the army and anti-government protesters in the Thai capital in the last week.

Micky Le Prevost stayed in Bangkok for a few days and left on Monday but said most of the violence was concentrated in one area of the city and the situation was not as chaotic as portrayed on television.

The city was put under curfew yesterday after some of the worst violence when the leaders of the ‘red shirt’ protesters surrendered. At least 20 buildings, including a shopping mall and the Thai stock exchange, were set on fire and there are still small pockets of resistance.
