Charlie Matheson, 32, was on holiday in Greece with his girlfriend, Sarah Langford, when the protests got out of control.
Three people died and more than 100 were arrested during unrest sparked by the country’s $400bn debt and the proposed measures to reduce it.
Mr Matheson, managing director of Island Rib Voyages, was due to fly home on 5 May but all planes were grounded.
Instead he went to take a closer look at the unrest. ‘The protesters had just petrol-bombed the bank and we could see people up on the balcony trying to get away. I think some of them died. It was awful.’

What a stupid remark by Mr Matheson – riots on the streets of London in connection with the national debt. I think not.

An interesting comment from a well versed political & social commentator?
“I fear for the stability of the Euro Zone should Greece default on it’s obligations” says Mrs Enid Squires chairperson of the St Dunstan’s flowers and church hall cleaning committee.
Slow news day?

What credentials does Mr Matheson have that qualify him to make such comments? He happened to be in Greece during the riots, that hardly makes him an expert in the causes of civil unrest.
I was at a top flight football match once and witnessed some crowd violence; perhaps I should offer some consultancy services to the police?
Sensationalist claptrap by the GP; stick to the day job Mr Matheson.

Here we go again.
Back to the ridiculous theory that you need proper ‘credentials ‘ to make an off the cuff comment to a reporter who shoves a recorder or a notebook under your nose and requests a ‘quote’
Be careful if you ever go shopping on the Bridge which appears to be a favourite haunt of TV,Radio and Press people who waylay you and expect an immediate expert answer to whatever subject is flavour of the day.
Probably best to reply that your credentials do not qualify you to make a reasoned comment until you have examined the subject matter in more detail
