‘We’ll think about helping if we can’

Martyn Le BoutillierTHE two housing associations have not ruled out managing emergency accommodation on behalf of the States.

Neither the Guernsey Housing Association or Sarnia Housing Association knew in advance of Barry Brehaut’s bid to get Housing to investigate whether empty States houses could be used in an emergency.

But both said they would consider helping out, if the States wished.

Deputy Brehaut has placed an amendment to the department’s corporate housing programme report. Those backing him said that an association could manage three or four homes for people who find themselves temporarily homeless.

‘I did not know about this amendment at all,’ said Sarnia Housing chairman Martin Le Boutillier (pictured).
