More beaches pass quality test

Dave ChesterEIGHT beaches have achieved an ‘excellent’ standard for water quality under European Union guidelines this year – the most since 2002.

However, three beaches – Cobo, Pembroke and Ladies Bay – failed to reach the European Union legal minimum standard and two received only adequate passes.

Port Soif and Portelet were judged the best in the survey, used by the Marine Conservation Society to compile its annual Good Beach Guide.

It is the second time in three years that Cobo and Pembroke, two of the island’s most popular beaches, have failed the test.

Castel douzenier Dave Chester (pictured), who has taken on special responsibility for the parish’s beaches, questioned whether sufficient work was being done to find the cause of Cobo’s poor results.
