THERE was no glorious finish in a blaze of birdies or net birdies for that matter, but Richard Sinkinson was a happy man at the end of the annual Charity Golf Classic at La Grande Mare.

The 36-year-old La Mare de Carteret High sports teacher, who had twice previously finished runner-up in the event, went home with the green jacket after his maiden competition win after four years as a member at the Vazon course.

The 11-handicapper won by a stroke from fellow LGM man Paul Babinski, while former island netball and football star, Bonny Hamilton, claimed third on countback and was top woman on show.

Sinkinson had begun the second day of the 20th staging of this worthy competition, which has raised many thousands for local charities over two decades, one shot behind Martyn de Carteret, who he was to go out last with on day two.
