‘Expect growth, just not quickly’

DESPITE all the global risks there will be economic opportunities and a sustainable future for well regulated, tax transparent jurisdictions, according to the States economist.
Dr Andy Sloan, pictured, was speaking at this month’s Institute of Director’s lunch about Guernsey’s economy prospects.
At the end of his speech he said he thought there was a bright future ahead for respected OECD tier-one jurisdictions that would translate into sustained economic growth in the medium term.
But he did not think that Guernsey would see much of that this year and things would remain tough but not insurmountable.
‘We’ll see positive growth, just not too much of it. The next few years are likely to be of a slower, steadier variety but with all that’s going on that would not be the end of the world.’
