Onlooker stepped in as police walked away

Friday 28th May 2010, 2:29PM BST.

AN ISLANDER was left amazed and unimpressed by police treatment of a semi-conscious man in the Commercial Arcade yesterday.

St Peter Port resident Martin Bishop was sitting in Costa Coffee yesterday morning when he spotted a man, dazed, the doorway of H. Samuel.

‘Two policemen came to try to talk to him and this seemed to carry on for a few minutes and then both of them disappeared, leaving the man still clearly in distress and being held up by another man,’ said Mr Bishop. ‘I decided at that point to see if I could help as it was getting to be a classic case of everybody looking but only a few helping.’

A spokesman for the force said they were investigating the incident. ‘It is highly likely that the person described, already on bail for other criminal matters, will be charged with more offences as soon as practical,’ he said.

Typical Guernsey Police, if something is too difficult or its change over time well lets just ignore the problem.

Gone are the days when you felt safe when a police officer was with you, these days your better off without them as they clearly are useless.

I dont know the reason why this man was there but obviously he needed assistance and they simply couldnt be bothered, excellent! There’s no place like Guernsey!

Tourism – Come to Guernsey, we pump sewage into our gorgeous beaches and the police wont help or support you! but if you want to play music on a bank holiday at Cobo Bay we will jump in, kick up a stink, moan about it and then when we realise the mess thats gonna be caused due to us THE POLICE being cr*p, we will allow it! Police, States – its all the same!

Your comments are generalised and unevidenced. I suspect, as Ray points out, there is another side to this story.

Sadly for the police, so many people love to default to police-bashing. Luckily for them, most of the police bashers do so as a result of a lack of information or insight.

Surely there are two sides to this story?

I refuse to be drawn in to police bashing, as we simply do not have enough information here. And your sentiment that the police are useless is frankly unjustified – lots and lots of good work is done by the police here and in the uk. Give them credit.
