Friday 28th May 2010, 2:30PM BST.
A GUERNSEY private equity director has met the Vietnamese prime minister while exploring investment opportunities in the country.
Mel Carvill, a director of PPF Partners, a Guernsey-based joint venture between Generali and the PPF Group, held talks with Nguyen Tan Dung recently in Hanoi, the country’s capital and second-largest city.
‘The reception I received was genuinely warm,’ said Mr Carvill (pictured). ‘The prime minister spent 30 minutes explaining how pleased he was and interested in what PPF is doing in the country.’ PPF, which launched in June last year, specialises in investing in the emerging markets and has so far invested 1.4bn euros.
Its investments in Vietnam include the market-leading consumer credit business which finances motorcycles, the transport of choice for the population, and a major cement factory near the capital.
