THE biggest event in Guernsey sand racing will still go ahead despite the death of top grasstrack rider Vince Kinchin.

The 42-year-old British international had again entered the Condor Ferries Sand Ace Championship meeting at Vazon, but within days of confirming his return to the local sands was killed in a race in Germany.

That was earlier this week and it left the grasstrack fraternity, including local organisers who knew him well, devastated.

For much of the week the Guernsey meeting scheduled for a fortnight today hung in the balance.
