COMPETITIVE spirits were high at yesterday’s hill climb as Bubblegum Bangers media teams battled it out ahead of the charity rally across Europe.
Teams of two from Island FM, the Guernsey Press and Channel TV were to get three attempts per driver, with the fastest time from each combined for the total.
The Guernsey Press team of news editor Nick Mann and former sports reporter Aaron Scoones took the title last time and were looking good after Mr Mann recorded the fastest time in practice.
But disaster struck on the first official time trial as Mr Scoones crashed into a bank as he crossed the finishing line, damaging the car’s rear axle beyond repair and reducing the duo to spectators for the rest of the day.
The Island FM team took full advantage as former presenter James Bentley and afternoon host Carl Ward took the title.
