Three days into this year’s Bubblegum Banger Rally and five cars have already fallen by the wayside.

Among those who have had to pull out owing to vehicle failure is organiser Brin Harrison.

After leaving the boat at St Malo, the cars have driven across France to Monaco, where there was a track day. They then went on to Italy, visiting the leaning Tower of Pisa, and got the ferry to Croatia.

The Guernsey Press team of newseditor Nick Mann and former sports reporter Aaron Scoones are still in the event though, and are now heading for Venice. ‘It has been really gruelling,’ said Aaron, speaking this morning.

‘We are getting up at about 7am and driving for about 14 or 15 hours. It has been much tougher than last time, but there has been a great spirit and everyone is helping out.’

The GP team had hoped to write a daily blog for This is Guernsey, but problems getting access to a wireless Internet connection have meant they’ve not been able to keep the site up to date.
