End secrecy call as Jersey reveals top people’s pay

Lyndon TrottA FRESH debate on whether the salaries of top civil servants should be made public is becoming a matter of urgency, according to the chief minister.

Deputy Lyndon Trott (pictured) said it was becoming increasingly evident from the large number of people who had contacted him.

‘The last time the Guernsey States properly debated matters of transparency regarding the cost of public sector employees was back in the 1980s.’

Yesterday, the salaries and job titles of every States employee in Jersey whose salary is over the £100,000 mark were released.

Last month, the island’s chief minister, Terry Le Sueur, refused a request under the code of practice on public access to official information to publish chief officer’s salaries, claiming contractual confidentiality.
