THE bathing pools will once again be an alcohol-free zone this summer.
Following on from the introduction of a drinks ban last year both at the pools and at the St Paul’s Gardens, Guernsey Police have decided to reintroduce it.
The ‘sunken gardens’ became alcohol-free in March 2009 following complaints of littering, antisocial behaviour and drinking.
The ban was introduced on a six-month trial that has since been extended.

In August last year, a ban on alcohol was put in place around La Vallette Bathing Pools.
This applied to the area from the bottom of Le Val des Terres to the Clarence Battery.
This year’s will run from Saturday until 31 October.
‘As with the zone around the sunken gardens, it is hoped that this measure will assist in reducing the incidence of alcohol-related disorder and allow families to enjoy the facilities in that area,’ said Inspector Trevor Coleman.
Victoria Avenue became an alcohol-free zone earlier this year for the Muratti.

Excluding Half Moon one assumes?

Half moon is’nt at the bathing pools.

Steve…read the article again…”from the bottom of the Val des Terres to the Clarence Battery”…the Half Moon clearly falls into that geographical area…even if you do not!

Sorry Vic, my apologies.
I did’nt actually read the article, just saw your comment under the headline.
Could be interesting if anybody challenges it.
presumably it only applies to public land in that area, not the private licensed premises of the Half Moon?
they’d have no right to impose a ban on private land.
I would imagine the Half Moon’s licence to serve alcohol supercedes the ban, which is targetting drinking in public, non-licenced premises.
I think you’ll find this applies to public land as opposed to licensed premises so don’t worry boys. The half moon will be safe!

No problem Steve…we all misread, or misunderstand, from time to time.
This story and its “not quite thought through” element, echoes another story concerning smoking and Dix Neuf. About three Summers ago I was sitting outside the large French windows enjoying a wine and a cigarette…I was asked not to smoke as it was annoying the people inside who kept getting whiffs of my Lucky Strikes…I argued that I was sitting outside, but to no avail…then standing up, beside my table, I realised that I was actually standing on a public thoroughfare…so carried on smoking, in the exact same spot, but in the upright position..the powers to be at Dix Neuf had to admit that any Joe Public could stand outside and smoke..only Lewis Caroll could make it up!!!,

Thanks for the tip Vic, I’ll remember that one when I fancy lighting up a fine Cuban cigar! :-)
