Exports the key to recovery in UK, expert tells audience

EXPORTS are likely to be the main source of growth for the UK economy over the coming years, a local business audience has heard.
Economic consultant Hetal Mehta, a senior economic advisor for Item Club, the leading UK forecasting group sponsored by Ernst & Young, was in Guernsey to give her insight into the UK economy and the challenges it faced.
She said the figures and statistics showed that it was unrealistic to expect the household and domestic sectors to drive the economy, particularly with the personal sector saving ratio now up at around 7% of income from zero in 2008, but still some 5% below the levels of the early 1990s.
