Last-minute bid costs sisters company and jobs

WHEN two sisters went to work yesterday morning, they thought they would be buying the loan company they worked for.

But by the afternoon, they were being thrown out of the offices and had had their keys taken away.

Karen Denoual, 55, and Terry Tostevin, 58, have worked for Mercantile for more than decade.

When it went into administration in May, they decided to buy the company, with the help of friend Ron Jouhning, 70.

They put forward their money to liquidator Grant Thornton and began to plan the future of the company.
