LES GENATS Estate has been assigned a dedicated policeman.
PC Rich Vahey has been the permanent beat officer since last week.
The position is part of the neighbourhood policing scheme and follows the success of PC Karl Addis’s appointment on the Bridge and St Sampson’s.
PC Vahey will work towards short-, medium- and long-term aims, paramount of which is building a relationship with the community on the estate and at Cobo. ‘I’m excited about the role and it’s something we can develop to make it a success like it has been on the Bridge,’ he said. ‘So far it’s been very positive and everyone is very chatty and welcoming.’

Good job too, i know Richard and he is a lovely man and will do well. Plus i live at Cobo and the children from that estate are terrible and are constantly upto no good, so finally the police cant just ignore the problem. Good move Guernsey Police long may it last!

What a brave fella, i wish him the best of luck !!!

Whilst this is a good initiative, and no doubt works very well, it saddens me that society has declined to such a level that estates need dedicated officers.
Whatever happened to community spirit?? Parents interacting with children rather than letting then run feral, and general rfespect for your fellow man??
Oh No!! I’ve turned into my Grandad!!

It’s a case of too little, too late I’m afraid. That place has been left too long and subsequently is one of the most dangerous places on the island!

If this does not work then I assume the next step is 20ft high metal fencing, camera’s,curfew and a gate.
Call it preparation for Adult life
On a serious note, is this not victimising everyone from one estate – should not every estate or infact built up areas outside SPP have Police officers visiting even randomly, building up relationships with young people?

PC:
I find it really odd that you think the addition of a community officer to an area amounts to victimisation.
