Chainey gets Bels job

LEIGHTON CHAINEY is the new coach of Guernsey champions Belgraves.

In a widely-expected move, the club confirmed the news yesterday morning, moving swiftly to replace Ian Champion, who resigned last week.

It marks a transition from assistant to number one for club favourite Chainey, pictured, who will be assisted by island midfielder Scott Bradford.

And the new boss has set himself high targets for next season.

‘No team has retained the league for a few years now, so that is our aim. On top of that, winning the Wheway Cup is an ambition because we haven’t done it in a long time [they last won it in 1973].’
