DANNY BLONDEL won the battle of the debutants as he claimed the Channel Islands Championship yesterday.
The first-time Guernsey champion overcome his counterpart from Jersey, Stephen Purdie, 3 and 2 at L’Ancresse in a high-class match.
The Jerseyman led one up at lunch having been three under par for his morning round, but Blondel then turned up the heat in the afternoon, winning seven of the first 12 holes on his way to the title.
‘I did not play great this morning, but I scored all right, while Stephen played well,’ said Blondel.
