TOWN seafront yesterday became car-free to make room for an inflatable football pitch, judo mats, ping-pong tables and alfresco diners.

The Sports Commission put on a host of events that attracted people of all ages in the afternoon sunshine.

Judo Frascati tutor Danny Smith said he had his doubts over whether such an event would work, but had ended up wanting more.

‘It feels very strange to be doing alfresco judo lessons on the seafront but it’s great – it encourages people to appreciate Guernsey in a new light and I think this should be on every Sunday,’ he said.
