Parishes happy with moves to increase powers

The proposed changes to parish powers will make not cutting hedges that overhang public highways a civil offence.
PROPOSED changes to parish powers have been commended by senior officials.
St Martin senior constable Gerry Tattersall said it was high time some of the moves proposed in this month’s Billet d’Etat were implemented.
He was adamant that legislation empowering the parish to take action against those who don’t cut their hedges be implemented.
‘At the moment we are a little impotent,’ he said.
‘Once we have issued a reminder and written to the parishioner asking them to cut their hedges or sort their streams, there is little more we can do apart from report them to the Law Officers, who are really busy guys and don’t want to know.’
