CGi wants action now on pensions

THE business community is calling for the States to take action to sort out the unaffordable public sector pension scheme and not wait for the UK to move on its own scheme first.
Confederation of Guernsey Industry chairman Peter Budwin, pictured, spoke after Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg promised action on the gold-plated UK pension scheme, and after Guernsey’s Treasury minister Charles Parkinson said the UK should move first.
Mr Budwin and the heads of other Guernsey business groups such as the Chamber of Commerce have long called for the local public sector final-salary pension scheme to close to new entrants or be replaced.
‘I don’t see why we should have to wait,’ he said.
