Splitting Seneschal’s role ‘risks a tax rise’

SARK is set to press ahead with plans to split the role of Seneschal but islanders may have to pay more tax to finance the division of the job.
In a report that will be discussed at a Chief Pleas meeting next month, chairman of the General Purposes and Advisory Committee Charles Maitland hoped to bring forward draft legislation by January next year.
He said they needed to take action because Sir Frederick and David Barclay were taking a case to the European Court of Human Rights.
The Seneschal is president of Chief Pleas and also Sark’s chief judge.
