AROUND 20 tandem riders kicked off National Bike Week yesterday by giving their colleagues a lift into Town.

The group then cycled around the Weighbridge roundabout, many of them clad in brightly-coloured Lycra, to encourage islanders on the daily commute to leave their cars at home.

Guernsey Bicycle Group communications officer Rollo de Sausmarez said the riders wanted to raise awareness as to why people should get on a bike.

‘If you go round on a tandem people have a smile on their face so it promotes the benefits of cycling.’
