GUERNSEY were made to work hard before winning Saturday’s inter-insular and regaining the trophy at Beau Sejour.
The final scoreline of 220.5-197.5 suggested a fairly comfortable success, but the Sarnians, without a handful of unavailable key names, had to withstand a late Jersey fight back after the visitors appeared to be in for a thrashing at one stage.
The seeds were sown in the early stages, with the hosts opening up a healthy lead by the end of the first bout of relays, at that stage 10 events in, out of a total of 50.
With no local winning more than two individual races, it was very much a team effort that opened up a 32-point lead going into the final 14 events of the day, having never been behind at any stage of the contest.
