Casey Brehaut with the 1-7-11 Cornish black fish netted off the west coast. (0987955)
AN EXTREMELY rare fish has been caught in a gillnet set off Guernsey’s west coast.
When Stuart Exall and Casey Brehaut pulled their net they found a brown-coloured fish different to anything they had ever seen before.
It was taken to a record committee member who was completely baffled by the 1-7-11 specimen.
Finally its identity was confirmed by Richard Lord to be a Cornish black fish.
It is usually an inhabitant of deep water and has been trawled up for 500 fathoms. It is very rarely found in shallow water areas.
