A MAN whose dog got through a hole in a fence and fell into an oil-filled quarry is warning the same could have happened to a child.

Builder Chris Marquis was walking his girlfriend’s one-year-old springer spaniel along with his Jack Russell on Thursday evening at Chouet when the animals went after a rabbit.

Both dogs got through a hole in the fence and Arley the spaniel leaped into the Torrey Canyon quarry, not realising it was full of oil.

‘She likes to swim and just jumped straight in,’ said Mr Marquis, 26. ‘I had to go over the fence to get them. She wasn’t in there long, but she wasn’t very happy.

‘It’s dangerous and they should close it off properly.’
