Heather meets the Queen in her week of Wimbledon firsts

GUERNSEY’S tennis star Heather Watson yesterday got to meet the Queen on her first visit to Wimbledon since 1977.

Heather was in a line-up of around 15 players past and present that included Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and current champions Serena Williams and Roger Federer who met the Queen in the members’ enclosure.

The 18-year-old’s mother, Michelle, was watching from afar.

‘Heather did a curtsy and the Queen said a few words. It was very emotional and very nice,’ she said.
