THE BBC’s Countryfile was being filmed in Guernsey yesterday.
A three-man team was recording an episode about local hedge veg and seafood.
Grow Your Own Drugs presenter James Wong was fronting the programme and was on his first visit here.
‘Guernsey is amazing,’ he said. ‘I have always been interested in the Channel Islands but have never had an excuse to go.’
He found out he would be visiting Guernsey only on Wednesday but said the island had been a pleasant surprise and hoped to return soon.

Gotta love that hedge veg – one of Guernsey’s best traditions. The seafood is pretty darn good too! :-)

Its a wonderful tradition that harks back to more civilized times. Shame it seems to be in decline due to all the thieves who are over here nowadays.

What a dose of welcome relief after all that Waitrose and Iceland nonsense. Long live hedge veg!

I sincerely hope that a truer picture of Guernsey is painted than the one portrayed by Islands of Britain. The episode featuring Guernsey and Sark was aired on Channel 7, here in Australia, at the weekend. We moved to Perth, 9 years ago, from Guernsey, and after watching this episode, several of our friends and colleagues here, now have a very different view of our island. Something between tax evading millionaires stashing their drug running proceeds would sum it up. It was actually insulting and embarrassing to watch and surely cannot have done anything at all for tourism. It certainly hasn’t endeared the island to anyone I know here.

I too watched this in Australia..and was confounded at what was shown..I agree with Rosina , it was slanted to particular people and showed nothing of what I know Guernsey and Sark are like..I feel this was just one more effort for unwelcome change and destroying the Channel Islands we know and care about..

The BBC ramped up their WWIII preparation programming this year with shows like The Edible Garden, Grow Your own Drugs, and the Ministry of Food. Very similar to the BBC circa WWII.
