Ireland clash on
Friday 25th June 2010, 2:30PM BST.
GUERNSEY’S footballers are off to Ireland for their pre Uefa Regions Cup warm-up game.
Tony Vance’s men will play the Republic of Ireland national amateur side at a venue to be confirmed on Saturday 11 September, just a fortnight prior to the supposed but still unconfirmed Uefa Regions Cup qualifier in Croatia.
Mark Le Tissier, the GFA chairman (pictured), described the news yesterday ‘as a fantastic opportunity’.
‘It will also give us the chance to see how the [English] FA prepare for tournaments. It will certainly be a fantastic honour for the players to represent the island.’
Le Tissier hopes confirmation of dates and venue will finally come as early as this weekend.
