THE Island Fencing Championships produced close results and excellent skills on show between Guernsey’s best young fencers and their more senior opponents.
In the men’s epee championship, Ross Martel, Marcel de Garis, Meyrick Simmonds and Adam Bonner emerged from the preliminary direct elimination bouts.
In the first semi-final, Bonner, a bronze medallist from last year’s Commonwealth Veteran’s Fencing Championships, defeated Simmonds by 15 hits to eight.
In the other bout, de Garis overcame Martel 15-10.
Bonner was always in control in the final. He ran out a worthy champion by 15 hits to 7.
